Top 3 Patio Furniture Products of 2008 and 2009
As the busy season for summer
seasonal merchants such as teak outdoor furniture, patio
furniture, and home and garden retailers, comes to a close we can now analyze
our sales data and provide some information around which items were popular
this year. Before we begin preparing for
the winter and holiday seasons it’s important that we take time and compare our
sales data with last years data so that we can see which products are popular
with our customers and how those tastes are changing.
In this article we expand upon the top 3
selling patio furniture items of 2009 as well as compare and contrast this data
with the top 3 from 2008.
2009:
The dawn of 2009 brought with
it many changes from 2008. The largest
and most obvious is the new President of the United States. Whether you
lean left or right politically, there is no denying that Change was the theme
of the 2008 election campaign and Change seems to be the theme for 2009. Below you’ll see that 2 of the top 3 this
year are different from last year, and 1 product remains in the top 3 for the
second year running.
#1 - TC53
Teak Steamer Cushions - While some things seem to be changing,
others seem to stay the same. For the second
straight year our TC53 Teak Steamer Cushions make our top 3 list best seller
list. For 2009 these stylish yet
functional steamer cushions available in your choice of Hunter Green, Canvas
White, or Nautical Blue were our most popular product. Last year these same cushions came in at
#2. It’s not hard to see why these
accessories are so popular. Sporting a
full 2 inches of high density foam, covered with a soft, washable, fade
resistant fabric, with reinforced piping and snug fitting corners, there’s even
a flappable headrest for added comfort!
#2 - MT70U-3 Cedar Market Table Set. Made purely from 100% clear western red
cedar, this has long been a favorite among cedar patio furniture shoppers. Featuring 2 70” matching western red cedar
benches and a heavy duty cedar market table, this set is the backyard barbeque
must have. 2008 sold a fair share of
these as well, however in 2009 customers thought enough of this beautiful
backyard set to bring it in at #2.
#3 - CHF-102
Teak Medium Folding Armchair ties with Pre-Oiled TF22 Teak Folding Chair. Both of these chairs are present in the 2008
Top 10; however in 2009 they were tied for the third most popular outdoor
furniture purchase! Our TF22 Teak
Folding chair comes in a pre-oiled state giving it a slightly more “dark” appearance
which brings out the beautiful wood tones of the teak, however requires a
re-oil every 3-5 years to maintain the look.

Teak 6 Piece Set.
While the CHF-102 teak folding chair is similar to the TF22 there are
some slight differences. Manufactured by
Anderson Teak, this chair perfectly matches all of our other Anderson Teak
pieces as it is NOT offered in a “pre-oiled” state by itself (there is a 15%
surcharge for this service). Most
customer prefer the natural unfinished state of the teak furniture as this
eliminates the need for maintenance as well as preserves the wood’s natural
look. Teak’s naturally excreted oil
prevents either piece from requiring additional teak oil applications unless
the customer prefers a darker look, however both pieces will equally last for
dozens and dozens of years due to teak’s natural hard wood properties and propensity
to withstand the elements.
2008:
While 2008 has come and gone,
so has the desire for large patio sets, it seems. Last year pre-stock market crash, and
government intervention into the housing, banking, automotive, and insurance
markets, we saw a strong sales trend in the popularity of our TS2 7 Piece Ultra
Teak Dining Set and the TS3 5 Piece Teak Patio Folding set. This
brings us to 2008’s top sellers:
#1 TS2
7 Piece Ultra Teak Dining Set and the TS3 6 Piece Teak Patio
Folding set tied for first place last year pre-economic “meltdown”. A good reason for the higher prevalence in these
high dollar collections could have been the economic stimulus checks that hit consumer’s
checking accounts last summer. This year
it seams that individual items were more of a hit than complete furniture sets
#2 TC53 Teak Steamer Cushions -
As with this year, this was one popular item that consumers everywhere seem to
love and continue to enhance their furniture with.
#3 CG45U
Cedar Glider Bench and OT70U
Oval Cedar Picnic Table Set tie for #3. As with this year, last year saw a popularity
trend among picnic table purchases. The
Cedar Glider Bench is largely popular because of its versatility as it fits
with so many of our products or customers existing products and is extremely
comfortable and fun to relax with. The
Oval Cedar Picnic Table is more compact than the MT70U-3 from this year’s list
but made from the same high quality Clear Western Red Cedar, making it a consumer
favorite for cost and aesthetics.
